NYC Museum overload - MOMA

The design collection at MOMA - featuring iconic pieces by Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, George Nelson and pretty much everyone who is anyone in international design. Even Stefan Sagmeister's graphic work featured in this collection.

MOMA was amazing if course. The sheer quantity of stunning (and super-famous) artworks on the walls was mind boggling. Such an incredible collection… and yet, so immense that it’s almost impossible to take it all in. It’s almost like you need a 3-day pass to fully absorb everything. After an hour or so you find yourself glazing over, even though the work you’re seeing is probably the best modern art collection in the world. Intense – but worth it.

What was, for me, a little easier to absorb was the fantastic modern design collection, showcasing the most iconic examples of furniture, lighting design and home accessories from the last hundred years or so.

I must admit I didn’t even know MOMA had a design collection until I visited... but it was such a lovely surprise! Beautifully curated, and nicely contained within 2 adjacent small-ish gallery spaces… which made it more accessible, and much less overwhelming than the rest of the collection!
