Great Big Stuff at Third Drawer Down + GIVEAWAY!
I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, 'OMG, she's finally lost it'. But before you start getting all logical and wondering why on earth you might need an enormous pencil or gigantic earphones... bear with me!
As a props buyer and sometime events stylist - I have actually had to source oversized items such as these more often than you might imagine. Thank God You're Here was especially fond of these wacky props - I recall requests for a giant toothbrush, a 6ft fountain pen, a 3m high cricket bat and oversized kitchen utensils on more than one occasion. And frankly, I am quite excited to know that if I ever need an oversized paintbrush, I don't have to find a props maker at short notice and fork out $3000 to get one made. Because Third Drawer Down has them for just $245.00! That's great value!
Ok ok I hear you... not everyone requires such peculiar items in their everyday working life. But just take a moment to consider the possibilities...
- Office workers! Encourage a smile in your dreary cubicle by offering guests an oversized hamburger instead of a chair to sit on.
- Teachers! Set up an oversized pencil or ruler in your classroom for instant 'cool teacher' cred.
- Parents! Imagine the photos at your kid's next birthday party with one or more of these props on hand! Stick French berets and moustaches on all the kids and have them pose at an easel with the oversized paintbrush!
- Students! Cause a stir at your maths exam with this ruler under your arm...
- Architects / designers! - Talk your client into ordering 20 x corn cobs as outdoor seating for their new cafe! (Come on now - there are enough plywood stools in the world already!)
- Retailers! - draw customers to your shopfront! Hang that pencil (or ruler) horizontally, attach hooks side by side along it's length... ta dah! - an instant eye-catching display for accessories, clothing, hangsell items... at least it'll guarantee a smile!
IF YOU TOO have a vivid imagination and are just a little bit bonkers (like me), perhaps you can think of the perfect spot for an oversized corn cob in your home / office / workplace! Third Drawer Down are very excited to offer this wacky prize to one lucky Design Files reader!
Please leave a comment here today to be in the running! Entries close at midnight tonight - May 6th 2010. A winner will be picked at random and announced tomorrow... good luck!! (Australian residents only, sorry!).

ReplyDeleteI love these. I actually have a friend that I buy giant stationery items for each year for her birthday. I'm not sure how it started but have given her a giant pencil, pen, eraser and calculator. Though none have been quite as huge as these beauties!
ReplyDeletemmm corn on the cob with butter and salt and pepper, cooked on the bbq - yum! Some for me please.
ReplyDeleteI love the cob!! and the giant tooth brush - to brush my giant front teeth with....
ReplyDeleteCan I carve it to make my own old-school corn-cob pipe?
ReplyDeleteSmokin' with the hicks never looked so good!
haha instead of it getting stuck in your teeth, you would get stuck in it... NOVELTY LARGE FOR PRESIDENT.
ReplyDeleteThe house I live in with some friends is named "The Ranch," due to the huge back yard filled with tumble weeds, large marsupials, rats and other creatures. I am the "Saloon Boy," my housemates the "Ranch Wenches". I think this giant corn cob would fit perfectly at The Ranch, where I could sit on it wearing a sensible dungaree, ranting at the neighbours whilst wielding a shotgun.
ReplyDeleteoh my GOSH! THESE ARE THE COOLEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN.
ReplyDeleteWe have been putting off getting a boring ol' Ottoman from IKEA.
THIS WOULD BE PERFECT!
We LOVE corn and we love to SIT!
Oh please i just a poor design student!
Yay Third Draw Down!
ReplyDeleteLiterally an AWESOME giveaway.
My tiny fingers are crossed!
Golden corn shining and new
ReplyDeletehow enticing it is, it makes me stand to
I love to eat corn
It gets stuck in my teeth
It gets on my face and in my hair
You swirl it in butter and sprinkle the salt with care
You gobble down the golden juicy cob
Until all is left is an ugly white log
Ahh, this is great. I'd have to fight my kids over who gets to sit on it though. It'd be super sweet if I, (okay we), won. Thanks Lucy!
ReplyDeleteOh please me, pick me!! It would be just perfect in my kitchen (and my teething 1 year old son would love to relieve his sore gums on this!). :)
ReplyDeleteWow - wee!. The peoples lives you could changes with these. Best winter party pieces for 2010!

ReplyDeleteSure why not!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a logical thing for me to win, seeing as my family has been growing and selling sweet corn locally since I was a kid. I used to loathe the early morning wake ups to pick corn to sell for the day. And there was more than one occasion where my father loaded up my red wagon and made me go door to door selling.
Cream corn soup for winter with my cat and chicken - yes!
ReplyDeleteThird Drawer Down wasn't around when I was a Props Buyer, pity.
ReplyDeleteAmazing stuff.
Holy crap! I love over sized things that don't really need to be over sized! Awesome ;)
ReplyDeleteShucks, the oversized corn is a-maize-ing! It is simply ear-risistable.
ReplyDeleteHopefully these corn-y puns are enough to secure the prize.
xx
oh pretty please!
ReplyDeleteLucy,
ReplyDeleteAs ever - pushing the envelope in terms of desire vs. necessity!
I discovered Third Drawer Down some years ago and found original artworks by the lovely Emma Magenta, to tie in with her book, The Perils of Magnificent Love. Fantastic place! And who could pass up the opportunity to win a giant corn on the cob- ha!
Whoa. I REALLY don't remember eating that.
ReplyDeleteI love corn the most!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I love giant things, even more than I love miniature things and I looove miniature things). Gosh, this would go great with my giant desk accessories. (Get it? Great?)
ReplyDeleteHA i love corn
ReplyDeleteHahaha, Lucy, I love (!!) Third Drawer Down, and go window shopping on their website ever now and again. I just spotted that the giant things had been added a few days ago. They make me laugh cause I've just moved to a ginormous converted warehouse, where all our furniture which looked huge in the old terrace house now looks puny. Maybe a giant corn cob will help even the score :P ...though I do have my eyes on that paint brush!
ReplyDeletePS Given that I study Art History, my fave thing at TDD is the Vik Vidor Art History print. Have you seen it?
ReplyDelete(I waxed lyrical about it on my blog here [http://aramblingmeels.blogspot.com/2010/03/pwned-by-art.html]; the TDD product page is here [http://thirddrawerdown.com/shop/product/T-SEARTHISTORY/]
It used to only be available as a $450 framed print, which I could easily talk myself out of given that that's well out of my price range...but now it's available as a $100 silk scarf, and is back to being painfully affordable! Ahhh Third Drawer Down, so dangerous for the bank balance!
Guaranteed to get a giggle at my workplace, classic.
ReplyDeleteso damn cool!!!
ReplyDeletethis would go wonderfully with my hamburger cushion and giant ice cream cone lamp!
ReplyDeletemichelle
Brings a smile to my face!
ReplyDelete:D
Cool Corn - I'd love the giant popcorn from that cob!!
ReplyDeleteIf judas ate an apple then i would eat a corn cob. eat eat eat eat eat eat eat eat eat
ReplyDeleteIf you dont eat all your vegetables you have to sit on the corn cob chair . love big things even since seeing whoopi goldberg with a giant toothbrush in jumping jack flash (movie).
ReplyDeleteOh my. I want them all. Imagine the party tricks!
ReplyDeletethese sure make the 'ol oversize wooden fork and spoon set look a little sad in comparison.
ReplyDeleteI like the big giant pencil. I almost bought a dress made out of pencils once....
ReplyDeleteear me out! those headphones would be terrific to block out the whines of the damn huge pencil pushers whose names i forget regardess of how big!
ReplyDelete
