BYO Coffee Cup
My Mum is a bit clever. By day, she works fulltime as a creative director in an ad agency here in Melbourne... and in her freetime, she is constantly dreaming up endless fabulous creative ideas - I can't keep up with her energy and motivation... she's truly an amazing Mum!
Mum's latest project is particularly fabulous - the BYO Coffee Cup is a collaboration with her great friends Ren and Saskia. Between them they've started a fantastic little creative enterprise called HookTurn Industries - and the BYO Coffee Cup is their first product! They designed this smart silicone coffee cup to look just like a paper coffee cup - except it's reusable! The silicone keeps your coffee nice and hot, but is cool to touch. And of course it fits neatly under the coffee machine dripper just like a regular take-away cup.
I'm sure you guys have all heard the horrifying stats about how much waste is created each year from un-recyclable paper and polystyrene takeaway coffee cups... the BYO Coffee Cup is a super stylish way to make a simple change in your everyday life, which can have a really positive impact on our environment.
The BYO Coffee Cup retails for AU$10.95. It's available online here.... now wouldn't it make the best stocking filler, kris-kringle, or present for your boss / Dad / kid's schoolteachers? Yes. You know it would :)
ps) HookTurn are looking for stockists! So if you have a cafe / shop / online store and think the BYO Coffee Cup would be a good fit... please get in touch! They would love to hear from you!
BYO Coffee Cups are currently available in black, white and coffee colours, with either black or white lids (in an configuration you want).

ReplyDeleteooh, how cute! and i think cuter than, how should i say this, another 'similar' product that has been getting a lot of attention lately... this one is more subtle! great job hookturn!
ReplyDeleteDone and done! My parents are both getting one for Christmas - what a clever Mum you have!
ReplyDeleteLove them, all that's needed is the mega size for latte'o'holics like myself!
ReplyDeletego lucy's mum.. family fabulous-ness! (don't think that's a word - oh well!)
ReplyDeleteWow. What great comments for our first little project. Thanks everyone. And thank you Lucy for being so clever to have a blog where I can show them off! Lucy's mum.
ReplyDelete$10.95 is a very reasonable price to pay for the smugness one gets to feel when using such a product over & over too!!!
ReplyDeleteI want... I need... I must have! As another latte'oholic I hope there will be a large size one in the range before long. Fabulous idea!
ReplyDeletebrilliant... yes, Lucy's mum you Are very cool!
ReplyDeletelove it! love that mama produced these beauties, love that daughter is able to promote it. love that women are doing it for themselves!! beautiful cups...x
ReplyDeleteI agree with the rest of the comments Lucy. It's no surprise you are so fabulous with a mum like yours.
ReplyDeleteI've been using a "keep cup" for a little while but I'm definitely making a switch to this little fella. They are gorgeous! I hope your mum does brilliantly with this product.
x dana
Hey friends! Thanks SO much for all your lovely comments... Mum is just so thrilled to receive such great feedback... and thanks so much to those of you who have already snapped up a few!
ReplyDeleteI feel I should say also that with this post I don't want to detract in any way from Keep Cups... they, too, are a fabulous Melbourne-born product, and I'm sure this city is big enough for both fantastic designs!
In the end, the more options there are, the more encouragement it is to get people to think about using a recyclable product instead of creating so much waste everyday...
Thanks again so much for your words of encouragement though! You guys are the best! (truly!) x
I love Keep Cup, but I also love BYO. Maybe one for home and won for work. Yes that is a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI've been using the coffee cup for a couple of weeks now and it's great. I make a coffee at home in the morning in the cup, then drink it on my drive to work. It's great for drinking coffee on the go - It keeps the coffeee warm for the whole journey and it tastes great. And obviously it's saving me money. Highly recomended!
ReplyDeleteWow Lucy, that's fabulous! On our current shoot "Lowdown" we purchased aluminium bottles for each crew member to re-use. This is the next step...the recyclable coffee cup for crew. A must for every shoot! Well done Chrissie and Co!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I am ordering one right now ....
ReplyDeleteWow, what a creative family you have! What a great and much needed idea, can't wait to see these all over Melbourne...
ReplyDeleteLove the company name/idea etc- brillant!
"Our name comes from the traffic signs that help cars and Melbourne trams peacefully co-exist. Each Hookturn sign is a reminder that sometimes you need to turn left to go right."
Nice to see an alternative to keep cup, as not everyone want something the same as the next person - bring on the choice. Would be nice to see Hookturn getting some more press - Are your mum & her biz partner are interested an interview on Design Droplets? Let me know.
ReplyDeleteAlso, keep up the great blogging work lucy :-)
oh LOVE those cups. I just ordered four, and referred my parents to the site who own a retail store.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your mum and co - fabulous to see some rad aussie bits out there!
(PS LOVE your blog!)
Cheers, Lee :)
These are such a nice and simple design! I feel so bad every time I toss my paper cups in the bin. I just grabbed 2! Thanks for the heads up Lucy!
ReplyDeleteJust saw these byo cups featured in a mag, called up hookturn straight away, ordered some & I'm now proud to say we've added this thoughtful product to our growing range of green goodies at www.huntandgather.com.au
ReplyDeleteWell done & thanks, Jenny
